I'm inclined to agree with Paul and Dom on this issue. I think it might
actually be worthwhile switching to source-only releases for 0.9.x, so
that the binary release of 1.0.0 is big news. That has the advantage
that the real-time release notes that I'm currently doing are enough.
Now, if we look at the writing requirements for a 'just works' release
process, there's rather more to the job. The real-time release notes
need to be converted into a list of added features -- ones that have
actually made the build, and aren't ifdef DEBUGed. These are the notes
that appear on various places on the web page. Then you also need to
write the short summary of what's new.
That can't be done on the current schedule. However, if we decide to not
bother with all that until 1.0, I provisionally volunteer to do the
writing job on Paul's list. 'Provisionally' because I have a job
interview at the end of the month, and if I get the job I have to move.
If that clashes with the 1.0 release, I won't be able to do it.
