Martin,

I know you're very proud of your current dialog, and we all appreciate the
many hours of hard work you did to create it. However, I don't see the
connection here. To date, I haven't heard anyone ask you to let that work
go.

How familiar are you with the approach Joaquín was taking? At this point, I
can't even see screen shots, much less play with running code, and I'd like
to. (That's why I asked for it.) Do you mean to discourage Joaquín from
getting his work in shape so the rest of us can see it, and judge it on its
own merits? If so, please don't.

IIRC, there was an evolving consensus earlier this year that it'd be nice to
have a total of two dialogs for manipulating lists:

  - an ultra-simple all-XP gallery of bullet/number choices, AND
  - a more powerful full-strength customization dialog.

The first would give people a quick, customizable set of choices, so if they
see a preview they like, they can just select it and move on. Or, if they
want anything else, they could click through to a more powerful dialog (like
you've already implemented) where they could tweak to their heart's content.

Ideally, those customizations could be assigned to one of the preview panes
in the first dialog, so that the next time you want to format another list,
you could quickly and easily reuse your prior work.

AFAIK, that's the kind of thing Joaquín was working on, and I, for one,
would love to see how something like that might work. Are you suggesting
that we shouldn't even consider such an approach? If so, why?

Paul,
very puzzled
