rms I totally repect your rights to contribute to projects you wish to on
the terms you wish to persue. However just to put things into perspective,
abiword averages around 2,000 downlaods a day. At an average of 5
megabytes per download that is 10 Gigabytes of data per day.
My University is charged approximately $50 per gigabyte of traffic. Now
maybe we're being screwed but if abiword were at unimelb that would be
around $500 per day in network costs. I suspect sourceforge has extra bulk
discount rates but it unlikely to be better than a factor of 10 than ours.
sourceforge is donating at least $50 per day in network charges to us. It
doesn't bother me in the slightest if they try to make some extra dollars
for their service. VA is in big trouble. I hope very much they can
survive and if they find they can make some more dollars while providing
their download service, all the better from my point of view.
If you put your rpms on on a website somewhere someone will upload them to
sourceforge.
Cheers
Martin
