GTK+2 will be a requirement, at least in part because we're going to use
Pango for sophisticated i18n/l01n and Pango doesn't play well with
GTK+-1.2 or GDK-1.2.
Some benefits of GTK+2.0:
Great accessibility support: Blind/deaf/disabled people are well
supported
Tremendous i18n and l01n support
Lots of new & improved widgets
Backing store/double-buffering used to draw widgets, so no flickering
"Stock" menu and button items
These things alone are well worth the switch over.
GTK+2.0 plays nicely with 1.2 - I have both installed on my development
box and many other people do too.
