Hi Ramanan,
AbiWord currently supports the following spell checker
backends (via Enchant):
Aspell
Myspell
Ispell
Uspell
Hspell
Enchant is a project I started. Enchant is an utopian
spell checker that can work with every free app
around. More info about Enchant can be found here:
http://www.abisource.com/enchant/
You will notice that Enchant *is* listed on
Freedesktop.org.

If you're doing work for OpenOffice.org, you'll
probably be making a Myspell dictionary. That's fine -
we'll be able to use your dictionary without any
problems. For that matter, so will all of Gnome via
GnomeSpell.
Now, if you could convince Kevin Hendricks to make
OpenOffice use Enchant, that would be great news. I
haven't had any luck so far.
Thanks,
Dom
