--enable-tfm
should not be necessary, you can remove it from the ./configure line
(last famous words...)
It enables support for TeX Font Metrics which have more information than
"normal" metrics files, but it is normally meant to be used for high
quality formatting only.
BTW, I tried to print the abiword document with the embedded formula
that I showed you today, and some glyphs (the square root symbol) came
out with a slightly different shape or in a wrong position, and all the
horizontal lines (like in fractions) so thin they were barely visible.
Is printing any different than rendering with respect to metrics?
