FYI, the second part of the patch is in (makes the menus also rely on
the stock icon infrastructure).
Gnome is cutting down on excessive use of stock icons in menus and
recommending to use menu-icons only for entries that have a
counterpart on the toolbar. AbiWord is now following that, which means
the number of menu items with icons decreased[1]. Hopefully that's ok
for you.
[1] It's a bit problematic though, since AbiWord has more than one
toolbar and some are off by default. So the menu-item <-> toolbar-item
association is broken.
