connect key events not working anymore

hi people

Since a sourcecode update some monts ago I noticed I can't anymore
capture key events inside abiword Canvas.

self.connect('key_press_event', ... -> my handler is never called!

I was using that to implement some keyshortcuts like ctrl+W to close
the file, and also to implement a python-based incremental search
functionality...

this change of behaviour in (py)abiword was necessary or was a side
effect of something else? is theere other way to capture key events?
