RE: Our first potential flame war: which scripting language?

My vote: Guile.

First, guile is being used by the GNOME project and is 'officially' endorsed by
the FSF. Neither is anything to be sneezed at.

Secondly, as I understand it, Guile is intended to be 'syntax independent'.
That is, I can program guile using scheme (ugh!), a C-like syntax, TCL, or
potentially a Perl-like syntax if someone chooses to right one. (HEY!
ARCANE SYNTAX???? I -LIKE- perl :)) This lets you avoid the 'language wars'
and, furthermore, devlope things like a 'vb-like' syntax for guile which would
be highly attractive to the MS crowd out there. Someone in the know please
correct me if I'm wrong -- I'm no expert on this.

Only downside I see is that Guile is GPL -- which could conceivably be a
problem with the 'APL'. However, I think we should very carefully consider
trying to make Abisource warez compatible with the GPL if we can possibly
manage it. This despite RMS beating his chest and growling so much lately.
