I've been having the same problem using an HP LaserJet 5L and ghostscript
5.5. I've sent a document by private email. This problem seems to happen
with dashes or closing parentheses being overlayed on the letter
before them, sometimes even if there is a space character in between the
letter and the symbol (though a space before a parenthesis seems to be
enough to stop it overlapping).
