Subject: Can't bring AbiWord up

I have recently installed AbiWord on my Linux computer, but I am unable to
bring it up successfully. When I start X Windows, and enter the command
AbiWord (or abiword - both work) I receive the following message:
Abiword could not load the following font from the X Windows System
display server:
helvitica-medium-r - - - 100
The message goes on to list possible problems: incomplete installation,
incompatible X Window system, etc. It strongly hints that I am running the
program instead of the shell script, which sets up environmental variables.
I installed using the .tar.gzip file. Both download and installation seemed
to run successfully. I was prompted for some directory locations, and took
the defaults in each case.
I am running ICE-WM. The message appears whether or not I am running Gnome.
I am running the shell script. However, when I run the program itself
(abiword_s) I receive a similar message.
I have checked the shell script. It refers to a font directory. The
directory exists, and seems to be populated.
Any ideas?
