There is this AbiWord.Profile file, either in your home dir's subdir or
under windows\AbiSuite\ if you're on windows. Open the file, read what it
says at the beginning, and modify the DefaultSaveFormat attribute
to ".rtf". It should work, though I admit I never tried it myself. Just
make sure to edit it while Abi is not running or it will get overwritten
on exit.
