Subject: Frustrating abort - abiword on linux

I'm running into a frustrating problem with abiword (current static
binary) on Slackware 71 running Gnome - Sawfish and KDE desktops. When I
bring up abiword, the logo comes up for a few seconds, then dies. If I
look at the console under the desktop, I get the following:
/usr/local/AbiSuite/bin/AbiWord: line 61 215 aborted
$AbiSuite_Home_/bin/AbiWord_s "$@"
(nothing in syslog or messages)
I haven't a clue of where to look. Can anyone suggest something?? I have
AbiWord installed on a number of machines and it works fine.. This has
me worried since we plan to put AbiWord on several hundred machines this
year that will go to educational non profits and homes, and wierdness we
don't need :-(
I'm sure it's something simple, but unrevealed by that inscruteable
error message..
