Star Office is impressive, but bloatware - it is to office software what
Netscape 6 is to browsers. I'm amazed that most office software these
days needs at the very least a 350MHz processor and 64MB of RAM just to
work passably - back in the early 80's I used a program called
Wordwriter (for the Atari - remember those?) which did everything I
wanted with 560KB of RAM, and I once wrote a statistics program (with
graphics!) which ran on a BBC Micro wth 32KB RAM - what's gotten into
people these days? I'm trying to find a simple word processor that will
serve the needs of my workmates, who have boxen with 32Mb of RAM, which
means that opening Star Office / Open Office means you may as well go
out and put some coffee in the percolator. For myself, I'm happy using
LaTeX!
Best wishes,
Robin
