Some of the gurus might be able to make sense of this but i cant.

It is really helpful if you can tell me/us exactly what version
of abiword you are using as this may already have been deliberately or
even accidentally fixed.

Please be very clear and pedantic, and explain exactly what you do in
relation to page breaks that cause this crash.

If you can spare the time to look through bugzilla and see if something
similar has already been posted it would be very much appreciated but
please do what you can.
