Why does autosave have to another extension? If AbiWord crashes, then it
reliably produces a .CRASHED file, leaving the original file in it's
last unsaved state. Differences can be cut and pasted between the two.
If so, then why could Abi not just autosave to the current document name
without cluttering the harddrive with extra .abw.bak files. At the very
least, when Abi exits then it could delete the .abw.bak files it
produced.

Question: if there is no extension defined in the autosave preferences
box, will it have the same effect?
