You can take your Sherlock Holmes hat off now, Alan! Yes, I am using
Linux. My main distro is the excellent Libranet. I also run SUSE and am
looking at the latest Mandrake from a magazine cover disk. It's
interesting comparing them all. I sometimes use Gnome, sometimes KDE
and sometimes IceWM. but I have standardised on KMail as I really like
just using the arrow keys to scroll through the headers and the
    messages.

Thank you, Alison, for your very useful reply. I have not heard of
gtklp, so I will definitely give it a try. There is what is probably a
KDE equivalent called KPrinter. But it would be nice to be able to
print alternate sides from inside Abiword, rather that having to set up
an external program each time. (Just being lazy!).

As I have said, I like the Debian type of distribution, with its much
better method of sorting dependencies. That is why Libranet is the
    distro I use mostly.

I tried plain Debian some months ago, but it was a disaster for me. I
got it basically installed quite easily, but couldn't get it to print,
scan, or connect to the internet. Not a lot of use. So after a week or
so of struggling I gave up.

Thanks again, Alison, for the help.

    Cheers

    Keith
