    sounds like automake worked but that autoconf failed. do you actually
    have the abi/src/af/xap/ directories? if not there must have been a
    problem when you extracted the source from the tar ball - do you have
    enough disc space for this?

    check to see if you have "autogen.err" or "autogen.out" files after
    running autogen.sh
