Thank-you for the apology Frank. I am not in the habit of
firing off "disgusted of Tonbridge Wells" e-mails, but
I am afraid that my goat had been more than usually got.

Thanks for the links. I did in fact manage to install the
plugins from the tarball, without using the builtin option,
but I will revisit that now.
There may, by the way, be a (gcc 2.95 ?) issue with
xsl-flo:
ie_exp_XSL-FO.cpp: In method `void
ListHelper::setIdList(unsigned int)': ie_exp_XSL-FO.cpp:104:
static_cast from `void *const' to `const fl_AutoNum *'
make[4]: *** [ie_exp_XSL-FO.lo] Error 1
On a more general level, I take Alan Horkan's point that
the abi developers make strenuous efforts help us to help
you - particularly by making rpms of development versions
available. So far as I can tell, the guidance for would-be
developers is also strong. I do feel, however, that
support for people like me - interested but non-expert users
who like to compile their own stuff whenever possible (I
don't even have rpm on my LFS system)- is not so good. I
appreciate that this is a very diverse body of people for
whom it is hard to cater in a standardised way and I also
appreciate how dangerous a thing a little learning can be.
Nevertheless we exist and have something to offer. A
trivial example is the fact that the homepage does not have
an explicit link to the SourceForge download page, so one
has to do some rooting around to discover (for example),
that plugin tarballs specific to the development versions
exist. More seriously, the docs do not
generally explain the compilation options. Maybe I could
contribute something to help with these issues when I have a
little more experience.
Regards,
Geoff
