After finally getting 1.0.3 to run on Mandrake 8.2 - OK but with scrambled
spellcheck - I upgraded to Mandrake 9.0 and Gtk2 in the hopes of getting better
results with many things including the developer branch of abiword, which
sounded rather good. I managed to install 1.1.3 without having to cheat or
force but found all sorts of problems:
1 the configure told me that wv would not provide wmf to png facility (I
compiled 1.0.3 with libwmf and all went well)
2 It said jpeg support was compiled in but Abi will not display jpegs
3 It would not compile with gnome, saying it needed gal-2.0, which despite the
most valiant efforts of Mr Google does not appear to exist anywhere on the
planet!
4 It needed all sorts of extra stuff for Xft but I can probably sort that out
later when I am not so tired with it all. Upgrading to Mandrake 9 has not been
a fun experience!
5 Files that 1.0.3 used to display perfectly are all scrambled up - .abw and
.doc. Could it be the tables business? Lines disappear off the bottom of
pages but do not show on the next page, and .doc files do not lay out as cleanly
as they used to.
I tried to go for 1.0.4 thinking that this might be more stable but found what
appears to be an insoluble dependency - libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.3). I tried 1.2.99
and found a similar problem with gtk2 causing conflicts (what is the difference
between Gtk2 and Gtk-2.0?) 1.3.99 had both these problems!
Can anyone help me to get a working Abiword on Mandrake 9.0?
