One of the real irritations using Word was that
it pretended to be a high end document production
tool but it never supported a core graphics format:
it offered no EPS display except for files with
(horrible!) WMF or TIFF previews.
If AbiWord would talk to GhostScript (say, like
yap does) it could provide a bitmap display of
included EPS files. This would be *very* nice.
