Unfortunately, what you wish to do, pre-compiled binary(ies) that work for both
linux and windows (assuming I understand that right) will not work. Compiled
windows binaries are done in the PE format (which means nothing to me, but is
probably very Windows specific) and Linux binaries are compiled in ELF (which
include unix-specific headers, addresses, et c).
Also, it is less space to have the compiled versions of abiword and whichever
dependencies than it is to just have the source code of AbiWord (a comparison
of maybe 12Megs of abiword and it's dependencies to the 18 or so Megs of ONLY
Abiword's source). Furthermore, it would simply be easier, from the Windows
perspective, to use the binary (or installer).
Also note, in Linux, we don't have an "Install Sheild" kind of setup. We use
package managers, which work on similar concepts, but the packages themselves
are not executable, but more like archived files.
