Sorry to reply to my own post. One other thing has occurred to me. If I
compile a test program using a gtk_entry or gtk_textview widget (in other
words, I know its provenance), highlighting of text in that widget shows
correctly. So it seems to be something specific about the way in which
abiword uses themes.
