If msvcrt.dll is not installed, the installer places along side of
AbiWord.exe, however, you are more than welcome to place in \windows\sytem
if you have other programs that use it as well. DLLs placed in the
system directory should be registered so installers that attempt to
update the DLL know its existance and more importantly so the count
of who depends on it is accurate so an uninstaller does not remove
the necessary DLL. That said, it won't hurt to simply copy there, as
long as you keep a copy that you can put back if it does accidently
get deleted during an uninstall (and given the initial lack of a
standard installer for Windows, this may happen regardless).
AbiWord itself should function with any version you wish to use,
though I would suggest you use the newest one if possible -- other
applications may or may not be effected by a different version than
what they installed.

Yes, if you install to different directories, you can have as many versions
of AbiWord installed as you want. The only catch is that the last one
installed will be the one used by the shell execute (double clicking on a file).
Do you have Internet Explorer installed? and if so what version?
Would it be possible for you to provide the version of several other
DLLs installed on your Win95 system? (email me directly, jeremyd at computer.org)
and I will give you the list that installer may use and if you need them,
instructions to find the versions or a program to do the lookup quickly.
I am still looking for someone to help me track down this problem,
if no one helps, it will continue to exist until a random change fixes it!
(or someone else does so) as I repeat, it does not occur for me on a
plain Windows 95b install.
Thank you,
Jeremy Davis
