problem loading dictionary

I recently upgraded to Abiword 2.0.1 and have been having trouble with
the dictionary. When the spell check function is called it complains
that it cannot load the (en-US) dictionary. I checked in the
/usr/share/AbiSuite-2.0/dictionary/ folder and found it blank. After
untarring abispell-en-US.i386.tar.gz (from sourceforge) into the
dictionary folder the problem was not resolved.

Any suggestions would be welcome.
