Well, so far it is looking like a success story...

I compiled Abiword 1.0.3 with almost no hitch.
(make UNIX_CAN_BUILD_STATIC=0) (needed to adjust the -L for
-lexpat in the g++ compile line)

At the make install, things worked, but my problems have
started. (untarball unixfonts-0.7.8 and throw away all the
fonts, replace with 4 ttf which I think are Polish and create
    a valid fonts.dir)

Abiword starts okay (and with editing profile file, can get
a Polish interface). Abiword (from wrapper script) starts with
an error message about not being able to add Unix fonts for X.
    (my fp is -1,/usr/local/AbiSuite/fonts )

Here is where I need help...
First time, all of my fonts worked (one was not Polish). Printing
(embed fonts) generated bad postscript. Now I know that the Arial
font was the cause, and I can generate postscript if I do not
    use that font.
Now, if I select Arial - or load a document with Arial, Abiword
crashes with a message - Invalid font 0-*-******-*-
(get same msg twice then app closes)! Any ideas?

The console complains that my polish.hash has a bad magic
number. It is a copy (to abiword/dictionary) of the one that
comes with ispell. How do I get a working Polish spell checker?

    Thanks again,
    Paragon17
