Good afternoon, Abiword enthusiasts. I would have also appreciated it if
the writer of the article on Newsforge had also included the open source
Ted word processor. The lead programmer is Mark de Does, and the u.r.l. is
www.nllgg.nl/Ted. I think that it only runs under Linux. I wish I had
more information about it. In particular, is it in the same league as
Abiword, Open Office Writer, and Kword? Yours truly, Lee Shackelford

what i miss the most from the article is that it puts the emphasis on
writing loooong and complicateeeeed documeeents...

which, in my opinion is not what 99% of the people do...

i usually open documents to read them, and write shorter, 5-10pages
long, relatively simple documents.

here other features start to become important...
like simplicity...or startup time.

for example, imagine that you get a mail with a doc attachment. on most
linuxes distributions the .doc format is associated with openoffice, so
you click on it, and the waitwatiwaitwaitwait...you get the
splashscren...then waitwait..well, you know what i mean.

lately i switched the associatons for .doc to abiword and for .xls to
gnumeric, and they do their job perfectly.

this startup time thing always makes me nervous. i can start ms-office
in wine faster then the 'native' openoffice.

i also missed the mentioning of the fact, that abiword is available for
win, linux and osx. afaik openoffice only works normally on win and lin
(don't get me started on the osx 'version' ;), and kword only works on
linux.

also sentences like:
"Although all three word processors can use KDE's Print to File (PDF)
option...".

what if someone uses gnome? xfce?wmaker?

basically the article seemed a little ...hmmmm.unprofessional. he
basically listed n features, and checked them in all the programs.
that's all.
