There are various ways to fix this, none of which are ideal. (Ideally you
wouldn't have to do this at at all and software would be smart about
locales like en_CA, en_IE, en_GB but I digress.)
Going to "Tools, Spelling, Auto Spellcheck" and turning off automatic
spell checking will get rid of the warning at least temporarily until you
want to do any spell checking.
Alternatively you could Select All and then choose Tools, Set Language to
mark the text as en_GB (or en_US but I thought Candians mostly used
British spellings). Of course this is assuming you have the British
English dictionary installed (the American en_US dictionary comes as
standard so using it instead might be easier.)
[Half way through writing this and Ryan has responded.] I'm fairly sure
there isn't an en_CA dictionary despite what Ryan suggested because just
about everyone uses either en_US or en_GB. It is a shame Abiword isn't
aware which varieties of en_* use British spellings and which use American
and quietly do the right thing without asking any questions. It was one
of those things I always hoped would be fixed later (there might be a bug
report about it, but I forget because it would be a very old bug if there
was a report.)

I dont think the other advice we might normally give about changing
the document default language would be approrpriate in this case
http://www.abisource.com/twiki/bin/view/Abiword/IntlFaqSettingDefaultLanguageOfDocuments
but permanently setting the document language to en_US would make the
problem go away, or hide the problem.
