Abiword on a server

Hi,

I'm working on a project that will do some server-side
processing of documents (filling templates with user-supplied
data, perhaps mailmerge) which should result in postscript-output.

AbiWord's commandline functions seem to be a good start,
however i figured out some problems:

1) AbiWord dumps core when running without an active X-Server,
even in batch mode. I think I can work around this with an
VirtualFramebufferServer but i would prefer to avoid this approach.

2) abiword --print=test.ps document.(abw|doc) produces
PostScript level 2, while printing from inside AbiWord results
in Level 3 files. This is a big problem as the quality
of the generated Level 3 files seems to much, much better. Is
there a way to specify the PS-Level when using --print?

3) I tried the AbiCommand Plugin (this would help me with
replacing field values when processing templates) but I
got the following error when attempting to load a document:

(abi24:9975): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_window_get_internal_paint_info:
assertion `GDK_IS_WINDOW (window)' failed
Abort trap (core dumped)

Would be great if somebody could help.

regards
Thomas

P.S.:
AbiWord 2.3.1 (same on 2.2.8)
FreeBSD 4.11-STABLE
