Yes, that's best for a newbie.
It's what I used.
Avoid using both aptitude and dselect further down the track, as they
use two different repositories, and the one can't read from the other.
This will get you into a mess also.
The control factor which gives you the power to configure your system,
also gives you the power to screw it completely.
