Thanks very much for your encouragement.
I think what you want to do is much more easily obtained by inserting a
table and then turning off the lines that divide the table.
That way you can be sure each paragraph lines up correctly on the left and
right sides.
When you turn off drawing the lines, they appear as broken lines on the
screen but when you print they do not show up at all.
You do the latter with the "format table" dialog. This is launched from
the menu->table selection.
