Thanks for the pointer re keyboard layout & KDE, I had been wondering
about that :-)

The switching of keyboard layout I regard as only a work-round, however.
This just adds a few extra characters. Just think of having to type a
nice polyglot bibliography!

Both MS Word and WordPerfect provide a very easy interface to assign,
and re-assign keyboard bindings. Besides, the interface shows you if the
key is already assigned and to what it is assigned, or if it's free, so
you know what you are doing if you change it.
On top of that, I have had the most unexpected things happening in quite
different applications when working with non-standard keyboard layouts
(or more than one layout). I suppose the problems are more likely to
occur if you use the keyboard almost exclusively, and use the mouse as
little as possible, like I do.

I have no idea how the MSWord and WP interfaces have been made and what
is possible or impossible in Abi (and OpenOffice), but I would
appreciate it if the developers would consider the problem.
