abiword doesn't print?

hello,

i'm puzzled. with openoffice 2, i can print to my laser. abiword goes
through the motions, and says it's going to print, but nothing happens.
i don't even get a printer icon in the system tray (ubuntu dapper
6.06/abiword 2.4.4 / hp laserjet 4plus.) any ideas? happy to supply any
additional info that might solve this little puzzle.
