Well, I do have that dual-boot machine that I can plug a
portable drive into, and then follow the rest. At that point two
cases arise, assuming the drives are cheap enough.

Case one : my wife. She runs Abiword under Fedora Core 5 at
home, where we have an M$-free house except when XP is booted,
seldom and briefly. She'd use the portable drive only at such times
as she might get to the nearest county public library while visiting
her mother.

So would there be any problem with copying her existing
draft from FC5 abiword to the portable drive, running it under M$,
and then copying the changes back to the FC5 machine when she got
home?

Case two : my friend, who runs only M$, I don't know what
variety. If I created such a portable drive for him, probably with
both abiword and OO, would he be able to move Word projects from his
machine onto and off the drive, with both apps, at will? I'm
thinking he could take some urgent project back and forth between
his home and his office, at a cost of no more briefcase space than a
book; and that might appeal enough to get him to try it.
