Spell Check -> Crash !

Hi,
        Having recovered a kernel OOPS after making from source I found
spell-checking in AbiWord & xchat-gnome gone. I've updated Aspell and
dictionaries and find that spell-checking works correctly while writing
but that when I wish to spell-check an AbiWord document via F7 or
'Tools->Spell Checking' I get a blanked out panel for a while before
AbiWord crashes.

        I need to spell-check whole documents quite frequently.

        Any ideas about what I've missed ... Dom ?
