sounds familiar, I recall there was a way to do a mail merge from a
database backend but I dont remeber the specifics (not necessarily
available for windows)

I think if you build abiword with the right gnome-vfs modules you can get
a document management system (the kind of person asking this question
should know the difference between a DMS and VCS and if it would be enough
for what you really need).

I think something similar already exists as part of the whole mail merge
functionality.

and the rest is probably requested in bugzilla. when this discussion
winds down you should probably file a few requests in bugzilla and make
sure to include links to this discussion in the mailing list archives,
that way thing will not be forgotten about.
