Ancient Greek and AbiWord

Hi,

 I am hoping for some advice about reading and writing Ancient Greek
in AbiWord. My details are as follows:

Operating System: Xubuntu 6.10 Edgy Eft
AbiWord Version: 2.4.5
AbiWord part of Xubuntu Install

 I asked a similar question on #abiword and was told to look at 'gtk +
input' but I did not fully understand what this is and how to go about
it. I am a student of Ancient Greek and I really need to both read and
type the language, at the moment I can do this in OpenOffice +
Thessalonica but my preferred word processor is AbiWord.

 Any help will be gratefully appreciated!
