Ah, that no autocorrect by design makes sense. I'd be quite contented
if it did indeed work that way. However, it seems that this must be a
bug because while abiword leaves single dashes as single dashes (as it
should) it turns both kinds of MSWord long dashes (both generated by
putting two dashes --) into single dash as well.
**New (related) Question**
Moreover, to my dismay, I have also noticed that abiword does not
convert single quotes into entities. It turns double quotes
appropriately into ” “ (or " if you had a non-curly
double quote for some reason) but turns single quotes into literal
straight quotes (whether they were straight or curly in Word) instead
of converting them to ‘ ’ or '.
I am wondering, is this last having to do with a conversion option or
something? It just reminds me, how, for instance, the PHP htmlentities
function by default is ENT_COMPAT, that is, converts double quotes but
not single quotes.
I will report these things as bugs, I guess.
