Depending on what you mean there are various ways this could be achieved.
Modifying the default template Normal.awt is probably the easiest.

The Insert key behaves in Abiword the same as it behaves in Microsoft Word
and practically every other other application in Windows. This has
nothing to do with Abiword.

If you wish to paste text into any application in Microsoft Windows one of
the ways you can do so by holding Shift and then pressing Insert.
