As I've said before you describe a solution that works for you without
mentioning the underlying problem. Knowing the problem the great abiword
developers might yet come up with a better way to solve the problem.

If I recall correctly and depending on what platform/operting system you
are using Abiword might actually be showing you a different font that
looks very similar to Times New Roman but preserving the name for
technical reasons.

Not sure though.
