My understanding was wrong.

Now, I understand.
Abiword does not have encryption functions itself
Rather, it relies on the encryption functions provided by
other software(gnutls). By default, gnutls is not built.

The gnutls code is not written by us, nor included in the software. It
is just used by it. You can even disable its use if you are not
interested in the collaboration feature of AbiWord.

Everything else is the domain of an attorney, and neither of us is one.
