Inserted Graphics

I have several documents into which I have inserted photos in JPG format.
I have saved these documents as both RTF and DOC files. Abiword handles
them in either format quite well. However, when I try to view them through
either Microsoft Word or Open Office, the inserted JPGs don't show. some
of the people I'm sending these files to don't use Abiword. How can I make
these photos visible to them?
