Re: spellchecker and thesaurus installation

No, you can't use older plugin versions. When you run configure, be
sure to look at the end to see the results of what it found and is
enabling - you will probably need to install some -dev packages. Make
sure to pass --enable-plugins to configure so that as many plugins as
possible are built.
