Entering Quotes & Selecting Unconnected Text

Hi,

Resources: Windows XP, 2003, Home > AbiWord 2.8.1 (default installation,
plus Grammar Checker).

I have come across two problems:

    * *Entering Quotes: *The quotation marks show up only at the
      beginning of a word and between letters. I have illustrated the
      problem in the attached page.
    * *Selecting non-connected text: *Microsoft does this with the use
      of the "Control" button. This method does no seem to work in AbiWord.

Kindly advise me on how to deal with these issues.
