Suppress ligatures for single words?

Hello everybody,

is there any possibility to suppress ligatures for single words? There
are some cases, like the German word ‘Auflage’, where a ligature (‘fl’)
is undesirable (because of the prefix ‘Auf-’). Adding a zero width
joiner (U+200D) between the letters seems not to be a good solution
because Abiword does count the joiner as a normal character (option
‘count words’).
