Hi

This is not what I find, Using 3.0.1 with Ubuntu 16.04.1.

Using the pull down arrow next to the highlight icon gives a palette of
colours, selecting one gives a highlight of the selected colour. Clicking
on "Custom color" gives a more complex method of selecting any colour.
This turns highlighting on.

The only way that I have found to turn off highlighting is to click on the
box "Clear background" The highlight icon appears to have no effect
whatever.
