I would anticipate a few rounds of refinement and clarification to
occur (on this list) before a POT file suitable for Pootle posting is
ready, but I believe I can provide you with a set of extracted
translatable strings that you can use to begin translation off-line in
fairly short order. This would allow you to get a start on the
translation before all of the "technical stuff" is sorted pout.

The key to the refinement steps will, in part, be setting up the PO
files so that they are most easily converted into the necessary
encodng and format for the .nsh files, ideally with a shell script.
The goal would be to minimize manual intervention in the
"post-processing" step.

The other key will be understanding what steps are necessary to expand
the listing of languages (particularly the listing of language
dictionaries) in an appropriate manner that functions within the
overall scheme of AbiWord installation.

One initial question is whether it is essential that the language
names be spelled out or whether it would be reasonable to switch their
nomenclature to something like the ISO-639 codes (and minor variants
like pt_BR or sr@latin) that are more commonly used in distinguishing
language-specific files.
