Subject: Installation problems

Hi all,
the following occurred to me already for the second time:
I installed AbiWord according to the intruction in the Readme file, all worked
as it should. When I started the program, the only thing I could do was to quit
the application. There was no instance of any menu on the main window, thus, no
function could be executed. To be precise, the menus were there but no labels
whatsoever were shown. That I could quit the program is due to the fact that
this function is on the same place in every application.
An empty program is a frustrating thing.
Can anybody tell me what I did wrong ?
My system: Intel 586, SUSe 6.3.
