I searched bugzilla, and found bug 3920: Styles Shortcuts
(http://bugzilla.abisource.com/show_bug.cgi?id=3920) that addresses this, so
the answer is no, this facility does not exist in AbiWord at this time. I
added a few votes, suggest you do the same.
