    thanks for your response.

Thanks for the suggestions: this is what I undestood:
- abiword is not the program I need when I have to mix text and images
(500k image can't generate 5M document!)
- there is a problem with abiword and evince in managing my printer: if
I print the same image using GIMP, the outcome is perfect, black included

So, although my PC is quite old, I need to try using OpenOffice: will
check if it runs properly (i'm sure I'll have to wait a lot ...) and how
the printing is.

Do you know any reason for abiword (and evince) not printing properly ?
